Echoes of Leadership

My Leadership Philosophy

What is leadership? What is really the correct definition of it?

To correctly define leadership is similar to trying to have control water like a water bender.....not possible in our world.

When I am usually asked what is leadership my answer is "dot, dot, dot" (...). That is because leadership is understood differently from individual to individual. If I am being honest, my personal definition has been changing year to year, adapting to my ever-changing self. As of right now, I understand leadership to be this: Taking the initiative to uplift others by taking time to understand them. Taking the time to become more self aware. Having the courage to be creative, especially when it is comes to adaptability. Being grounded in their values and pursing their purpose day to day. Lastly, chasing after the idea of lifelong learning.

When I first came to ZLP I really thought there was one standard definition of leadership and I have grown to realize that leadership is individualized for every single person. Meaning everyone CAN be a leader, its just about having the courage to take the first step.

Zachry Leadership Program

The Zachry Leadership Program (ZLP) is a leadership journey that spans 5 semesters of a lucky Aggie Engineering student. Throughout these 5 semesters we learn key pillars of leadership: Self Awareness, Empathy, Creativity, Purpose, and Lifelong Learning.
In the ZLP retreats and classes each semester, I have learned more about how to better understand myself and others through case studies, projects, readings, guest speakers, mentorships, group conversations, and deep reflections.

The program blessed the 30 other cohort members and I with the most willing and supportive environment to explore a new leadership terrain. ZLP has impacted who I am and hardwired me for the better. I am beyond grateful to have been selected to be a part of a revolutionary program. :)
